Enabling multi-functional reliable metamaterial integration
in real-life industrial applications
to enhance structural and vibrational behaviour
The main objective of the METRAMAT Doctoral Network project is to actively train young researchers to become skilled in metamaterial development by researching and creating a combined set of design, simulation, manufacturing, testing, reliability assessment and integration tools that will strengthen the European manufacturing industry and lead to a sustainable society.

ABOUT
Metramat
The METRAMAT project, a European Doctoral Network funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2022 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action (MSCA), is seeking applications for 10 PhD positions, known as Doctoral Candidates (DC).
The project aims to train young researchers in metamaterial development by researching and creating a combined set of design, simulation, manufacturing, testing, reliability assessment, and integration tools. These tools will strengthen the European manufacturing industry and contribute to a sustainable society.
Key aspects of the METRAMAT project include:
- Objective: To train and deliver 10 researchers skilled in metamaterial development, addressing the lack of knowledge in design-for-production principles, integration at component and system level, and design-for-reliability of metamaterials.
- Industry Collaboration: The project involves the MEMS, lithography, and additive manufacturing industries to ensure that scientific training is aligned with existing industrial challenges, such as positioning accuracy, sensor sensitivity, and shielding of external vibrational disturbances.
- Work Packages: The project is divided into three main work packages: WP1 Design and Simulation, WP2 Manufacturing, Characterization, and Reliability, and WP3 System Integration, which define the 10 different DC projects.
Design for manufacturability and reliability will, together with the transferable skills training, secondments and network, provide the doctoral candidates a strong basis for a successful career in industry or academia.
The new scientific insights, engineering tools and educational programs to be developed within METRAMAT program will pave the way to widespread manufacturing and application of metamaterials in European industry, elevating it to the next level.
